25 Years of Science with Chandra

Speaker: Akos Bogdan (Harvard CfA)

Date: February 29, 2024 @ 4pm

Workman Center, Room 101

Abstract: In 2024, we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Chandra X-ray Observatory. Chandra is one of NASA's Great Observatories, providing us with the sharpest X-ray images every taken of the cosmos. Throughout its mission, Chandra has revolutionized many areas of astrophysics, including our understanding of planets within our Solar System, the formation and evolution of stars, massive black holes, and the physics and evolution of galaxies and galaxy clusters. In this presentation, I will discuss the amazing technology behind Chandra, highlight some of the most exciting discoveries from the last 25 years, and explore what the future holds for Chandra and the field of X-ray astronomy.
